TerraCycle creates new solutions for waste through three major business units each focusing on a different stage in moving from a linear to circular economy: recycling, recycled content and reuse. Through this approach TerraCycle has created first-of-its-kind recycling programs for locally hard-to-recycle materials, enabled leaked materials (from river to beach plastic) to be made back into consumer packages, launched a global platform for reuse through Loop, and to address the complex challenges of waste in emerging countries launched the non-profit TerraCycle Global Foundation.

TerraCycle was founded in 2001 by Tom Szaky. Born in Hungary, Tom and his family migrated to Toronto, Canada, when he was four. He always had a spark for the environment and recycling. Tom was shocked and astonished about people's waste: items thrown away are sometimes amazing and a second life is waiting for them!

TerraCycle was initially a small business, funded thanks to family and friends mainly. We can say our company had humble beginnings. With passion and perseverance, TerraCycle grew into the global leader in collecting and repurposing hard­-to-­recycle waste.
